ABOUT THE RESIDENCY
CASSANDRA depicts the acquisition of a women-led talent agency by its parent company and the interpersonal turmoil that ensues. Inspired by Euripides’ The Trojan Women, CASSANDRA is a “satyr play”—musing on New York as a Trojan symbol coping with the weight of impending disaster. Using an avant-garde talent agency as an analogy for kingdom, the play considers the persistent value that contemporary American culture places on beauty, individualism, and self-promotion.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Susannah Yugler (she/her) is an artist working across dance, theater, video and sculpture. Contemporary tropes, purgatorial spaces, and states of anxiety are constructed and deconstructed in her work through the interplay of gesture, language, and desire in order to illustrate the social relations and historical failures of late capitalist culture.
Her work has been presented at La MaMa Galleria (NYC), P.A.R.T.S./Rosas Studios (Brussels, BE), The English Theatre Berlin (Berlin, DE), Atelier Exhibition Space (Philadelphia, PA), The Fisher Center for the Performing Arts (Annandale-on-Hudson, NY), SARA’S (NYC), Worthless Studios (Brooklyn, NY) and Past Present Projects (Philadelphia, PA). Yugler has performed at the Hessel Museum of Art / CCS Bard (Annandale-on-Hudson, NY), The Kunstverein Hamburg (Hamburg, DE), The Unge Kunstneres Samfund / UKS (Oslo, NO), the Judson Memorial Church (NYC), ACUD MACHT NEU Gallerie (Berlin, DE) amongst others. She received her BA in Dance and Art History with a concentration in Gender and Sexuality Studies from Bard College and an MFA in Interdisciplinary Art, as well as a Certificate in University Teaching from the University of Pennsylvania’s Weitzman School of Design. She lives in New York City.
