Suzzanne Ponomarenko (she/they) is a New York–based Ukrainian American choreographer and educator working at the intersection of contemporary dance, queer aesthetics, and narrative-driven performance. Her work draws from historical sources, folklore, and theatrical traditions, often reimagining them through a conceptual and physical lens which includes tonight’s performance of Tapestries.

Her choreography has been presented at venues such as Judson Memorial Church as part of Pioneers Go East Collective’s OUT-FRONT! Festival, BAAD Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance, Arts On Site, Alpha Omega Theatrical Dance, The James and Martha Duffy Performance Space, Atlas Performing Arts Center in D.C, London Contemporary Art Gallery, Caras Alegres in Xela, Guatemala, Triskelion Arts, and The Williamsburg Public Library as well as festivals including the The International Human Rights Festival, Dumbo Dance Festival, Richmond Dance Festival, and Jacob’s Pillow “On the Road” Festival. She has been a resident artist at Baryshnikov Arts in spring of 2025, Kaatsbaan Cultural Park, and SPDance Center in Buenos Aires. In addition, she has produced multiple community-based projects including Senior Care Project, A Chance to Dance in partnership with Go! Guatemala, and The Puerto Rican Hurricane Maria Relief with Gibney Dance.

In addition to her choreographic work, Ponomarenko teaches at Marymount Manhattan College, Broadway Dance Center, and Harlem School of the Arts. Her teaching spans contemporary technique, composition, and professional development for dance artists.

She has served as administrative assistant and performer for Richard Move, as well as working with artists including Yvonne Rainer, Buglisi Dance Theatre, and The Stanley Love Performance Group. His improv career has taken him through national and international tours with Lisa Flanagan’s one-woman improvised opera La Donna Improvissata, T.J. Mannix’s one-man improvised morality tale Limboland, Northcoast’s improvised historical hip-hoppera Anybody, and Baby Wants Candy.
