It was my absolute joy and honor to join Baryshnikov Arts earlier this year as its new Director. Together with BA’s talented staff and dedicated board, we are working to uphold and advance Mikhail Baryshnikov’s creative vision—championing artists as they imagine, experiment, and share work that inspires and moves us.
This 20th Anniversary Season has already been extraordinary. And, like every year before it, our mission has remained constant: to give artists the time, resources, and space they need to develop bold new work—and to connect them with curious audiences eager for fresh perspectives.
Over the past year, BA has presented 40 nights of performance, welcomed over 6,000 audience members, hosted 18 resident artists, and offered over 1,800 hours of free studio time (plus another 1,000 hours at deeply subsidized rates) for the creation and rehearsal of new music, dance, and theater pieces. Crucially, we also paid $175,000 directly to artists in commissioning, residency, and performance fees. As funding for the arts continues to shrink and the costs of developing and presenting new work continue to rise, this support is vital. And we can’t do it without you.
